KA5RYF - Tim Mitchell

Tim Mitchell, KA5RYF

SK 10/06/1998

Timothy B. Mitchell, 29, of Gladstone, Missouri, died October 6, 1998, at his home.

Tim was a radio enthusiast, a member of the Armadillo Intertie System and the Sunflower Interlink (Kansas). Originally from Plano, Texas, Tim graduated from Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas, in 1991 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He then went to work for Owens-Corning in Kansas City, Missouri, specializing in industrial and automation controls. Always feeling the itch to work with RF, he was at the time of his death employed by Sprint PCS in Kansas City as an RF Engineer.

Tim leaves a radio legacy - the 145.11MHz repeater in Fort Worth, Texas (now K5FTW); the 443.15MHz repeater in Fort Worth, Texas (now N5PMB); the 443.65MHz repeater in Kansas City, Missouri (now K0SUN); and the 443.95MHz repeater in Memphis, Tennessee (now N4NBC).

In memory of Tim, a special plaque was placed at the Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio, the home of the Dayton Hamvention in May of 2000. The plaque can be found on the aisle that marks his old 2-meter frequency - "11".
